The zone extends from the north east to the north west part of Amhara region. It encompasses the woredas of Bugna, Gidan, and Lasta in North Wollo; Ebernat, Farta and Lay Gayint in South Gondar and Abergele, Dehana, Gaz Gibla, Sekota and Ziquala in Wag Hamra zone.
